Mrs. Snapp’s Kindergarten News
November 28-December 2
Look What We Have Been Learning
During the past week in Kindergarten we have learned about short vowel words and measuring length. We also learned about the history of the first Thanksgiving and that time period.
This Weeks Skills and Knowledge
This week we will be focusing on making and reading diagraphs. (Ex. ph, sh, ch, wh, th). You should encourage your children to read words that have these sounds in them. (ex. math, bath, with, catch, fish, ship, phone, etc.) For math, we will be working on measuring with weight and size order. In writing, we will continue to sound out words, spell words, and label.
Things to Remember
December 9- Book order due
December 16- 1/2 day for students
AR News
We have been doing fabulous reading. I am even having most students read the AR quizzes with me in the morning. They are doing great!
Keep practicing those star words and reading each night.
Students who have not read will be missing some of recess to read the book with me.
Our class has read 1500 books!
Our next reward party will be after 2000 books.
Tips to Practice at Home
If your child does not know all letters and sounds, it is very important to keep practicing. The reading and writing is becoming more intense and it is hard to keep up if we haven’t mastered those concepts. I will continue to work in the classroom on these skills as much as possible.
*Practice uppercase and lowercase letters recognition and their sounds
*Practice writing all letters with correct formation and words
*Work with numbers, counting, and comparing greater and less
*practice sounding out short vowel words (cat, man, dig, run, bop, jog, etc.) by showing your child an object and having them tell you the sounds and write the words and diagraph words (ex. Ship, chat, shop, chant, whisk, phone, etc.
